Such a handful and some sharp words Your one liners, they mean nothing My struggles are so excitable I just keep coming back for more Cause I can’t take it slow If it’s absolute, it’s out of my control Whether crystal or marble The fumes surround till you can see god No, it’s never going to be like it was And I can’t predict what’s going to come And you don’t know what I’m thinking of Can’t be too careful and you don’t want to You’ve got a real good, sick sense of humor My struggles are so beneficial I just keep coming back for more Cause I can’t take it slow When push comes to shove, I’ll be at your door You may be clever, but you are a fool And maybe I am too No, it’s never going to be like it was And I can’t predict what’s going to come And you don’t know what I’m thinking of No, it’s never going to be like it was And if your heart was really broken Well then, you’d be dead on the floor Cause I can’t take it slow When push comes to shove, I’ll be at your door No, it’s never going to be like it was And I can’t predict what’s going to come And you don’t know what I’m thinking of No, it’s never going to be like it was And if your heart was really broken Well then, you’d be dead on the floor

Frenzy in the rain, mania days Fold up my head, got a new keepsake Over my neck, under my ribcage If the moment was just right, then you’d know if I could You’re bright and bold, I can’t go on And though you followed me into the mud, it’s not enough The shrapnel in your face Into your gut, keeps you fed for days Over my neck, under my ribcage Said you want more, just to turn face Maybe that’s you, never going to be me Over my neck, under my ribcage It is not enough You’re bright and bold, I can’t go on And though you followed me into the mud, it’s not enough You’re bright and bold, I can’t go on I used to be so passionate, it’s not enough If the moment was just right, then you’d know if I could You’re bright and bold, I can’t go on And though you followed me into the mud, it’s not enough You’re bright and bold, I can’t go on I used to be so passionate, it’s not enough

Put your camera away Sick as a dog, so we medicate Give your wheels to me, I’ll be there in a day Feels like I’ve been here before Seen some new faces, seen some old ones Don’t you fuck with me, cause I am getting old When one heart is hurt, the other will answer Find itself in pieces but held together I know that you will call me if you’re lonely Don’t want to start a war It’s not who we are, but it’s what we’ve done before Lay on the bed like lovers When one heart is hurt, the other will answer Find itself in pieces but held together Save your money till you get the trigger Pay our debts together because we are lovers I know that you will call me if you’re lonely When one heart is hurt, the other will answer Find itself in pieces but held together You and me, we are never going to be winners We’ll pay our debts together because we are lovers I know that you will call me if you’re lonely

about

With the ability to excel in both quiet ballads and distorted rock anthems, Citizen (which recently expanded to a full quintet with the addition of former touring members drummer Ben Russin and guitarist Mason Mercer) has an incredible knack for channeling raw emotion and energy into singalong songs. On Calling The Dogs, the band exemplifies that passionate songwriting and styling while stripping back to what they do best: guitar-driven rock ‘n roll.

Picking up labels ranging from post-hardcore to shoegaze over the years, it’s reductive to try to categorize Citizen as anything other than one of the best rock bands around today. Evolving from teenagers playing local dives to a vibrant band capable of selling out theaters and hitting major festivals around the world, vocalist Mat Kerekes, guitarist Nick Hamm and bassist Eric Hamm have earned their reputation as both tremendous songwriters and a must-see live act — and they do both better than ever on their new album, Calling The Dogs.

Citizen is Mat Kerekes (vocals), Nick Hamm (guitar and backing vocals), Eric Hamm (bass), Mason Mercer (guitar), and Ben Russin (drums).
